We bought the much-anticipated Canon 7D last Friday with Vinnie. We got a great kit with a video shoulder mount, a great Manfrotto video tripod, and the Canon 100mm f/2.8 Macro lens, which should be more than enough to get us started on his web series by the end of May! So stay tuned…

And so last weekend, I took the camera – without the video mount and the tripod – to Detroit and Chicago to give it a little test run. Now, I must admit I haven’t really reviewed all the images, so I can’t quite give you an in-depth analysis of things like the low-light performance or full video quality, but I’m clearly excited about the photo performance. Below are some of the coolest first shots:

1/160 sec, f/4.0, ISO 3200, 20mm (EF 17-40 f/4.0L USM)

1/100 sec, f/2.8, ISO 400, 100mm (EF 100mm f/2.8 Macro USM)

1/200 sec, f/2.8, ISO 400, 100mm (EF 100mm f/2.8 Macro USM)

1/1250 sec, f/2.8, ISO 400, 100mm (EF 100mm f/2.8 Macro USM)

(L) 1/100 sec, f/2.8, ISO 1600, 100mm (EF 100mm f/2.8 Macro USM);  (R) 1/40 sec, f/2.8, ISO 1600, 100mm (EF 100mm f/2.8 Macro USM)
