‘Preludes’ Poetry Video for Upper Canada College

My big corporate client, Upper Canada College, contacted me last week to make a video featuring student Jonathan Welstead, who recently won the first provincial Poetry in Voice competition with his reading of T.S. Eliot’s Preludes. This was supposed to be a very straightforward video, but once I started shooting, I got excited about the potential of making something that would be more than a mere record, and be somewhat of a piece of art in itself. So, with my trustworthy 7D, I decided to record Jonathan four times and attempt to make it dynamic! I had to put it out quickly (to give you a sense, I shot the video at 10:30 am and finished the edit at 6:00 pm), so it isn’t as polished as I would like it to be, but this is its final version I think. I’m sharing this to give people an idea of how easy/painless it can be to make a compelling art video… and also because I liked Jonathan’s performance. I hope you all enjoy watching this as much as I enjoyed making it. Cheers and congrats to Jon!
